Since the age of 12 I've been wearing weaves. I began wearing them because my mother noticed how much my hair was falling out due to perming and obsessive flat ironing. Though I wasn't bald headed or anything I've have always been insecure of my natural hair. My mother began perming my hair at the age of 4 and this caused a lot of hair damage. To me wearing my natural hair my made me ugly . Being interracial I always felt like my dads side of the family (who were mostly white) had better hair then my mom's side who are mostly black. Growing up with mostly white friends I loved how long their hair was and even the black celebrities I looked up to like Beyonce and Tyra Banks always had long hair. While watching the last season of the Tyra Show, she dedicated a entire episode to convincing black woman to be proud of their hair. I began thinking to myself if only I had the balls to do that. While hanging out with my friend Breeoon during the new years I thought of the idea of rocking my natural hair for an entire year. After some well convincing I cut off all my tracks and began working a new look. I proud to say that now I actually like wearing my good old naturally nappy hair. It's brought me a whole new batch of confidence as a young partly black woman.
